Separating? Let's get the money side clear.

Financial coaching for divorce and separation in Manchester, Stockport and Cheadle
When a relationship ends, the money questions arrive quickly. Who keeps the house? How much do I actually need to live on? Is this settlement fair? What happens to the pensions?
Most people face those questions while they're exhausted, upset and being asked to make decisions fast. That's when expensive mistakes happen.
I'm Nick Thompson. I spent 25 years plus in stockbroking, wealth advice, and building and selling a successful property business. Now I help people through life's big money moments, and separation is the one I see often.
How I help
• Get the full picture. We lay out everything you own, owe and spend, in plain English, so nothing is a mystery.
• Work out what you need. Not what feels fair on a bad day, but what your next five or ten years actually cost.
• Prepare for your solicitor and mediator. You'll go into meetings knowing what you want and what to ask, which usually saves time and fees.
• Plan life after the settlement. A home, an income, a pension that still works, and a plan you can stick to.
What I don't do
I don't give regulated financial or legal advice, and I don't sell products. I work alongside your solicitor, mediator or financial adviser, so you get more out of them.
How it works
1. Free 20-minute call. Tell me what's going on. No pressure, no sales pitch.
2. Clarity Session (£199). One focused session to get your head around the numbers and your next steps.
3. Financial Clarity Programme (£799). Three sessions and a written plan, with support through the decisions that follow.
Face to face in Cheadle, or by video anywhere in the UK.
Common questions
Should I see you before or after my solicitor?
Either works, but earlier is better. Clients who come first tend to arrive at their solicitor clearer and calmer, with better questions.
Can you tell me if my settlement is fair?
I can't give legal or regulated advice. What I can do is help you understand what the settlement means for your life, month by month, so you can have the right conversation with your solicitor.
Can my ex and I come together?
Sometimes, yes, if you're both open to it. Many people prefer to come on their own. We can talk about what suits you on the free call.
Is it confidential?
Yes. What we discuss stays between us.
When something big happens in life, I'm the person to come to.
Not only did I get answers and a clear plan of action, I felt galvanised and inspired to actually implement the plan, which felt very achievable. Nick is both very knowledgeable and approachable.
Money isn't often an easy subject to discuss, for many reasons, but Nick created an environment in which I felt comfortable discussing everything I needed to.”
TOM . P
I found Nick to be non-judgmental and very experienced about financial matters. Nick has a calm and reassuring manner and is willing to be challenging in a supportive way.
Our video coaching sessions were well structured and flowed. At the end of each session, we had set mini goals to work on and by the end of our time together we had successfully covered the whole topic I wanted to reduce my exposure to property, I was asset rich but cash poor.
I would recommend Nick to anyone looking to review and reset the way they think about and manage their money.”
MARK . H
I’ve worked with Nick for the past year and he’s been extremely helpful in supporting the growth of my property portfolio.
He has a real ability to provide a bird’s-eye view, helping me clearly see where changes and improvements should be made.
Nick brings years of experience, and I always feel a sense of calm, clarity, and understanding when speaking with him.
On top of that, he’s genuinely an amazing person to be around. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough.
ALEXANDER . L
Where Nick shines, is how he translates seemingly complex challenges into simple steps.
He listens with care and quickly inspires action with his carefully chosen questions.
I cannot recommend Nick highly enough as a coach.
Engage with this man if you are serious about changing your relationship with success and finance.”
