Common questions about financial coaching

What is financial coaching?
Financial coaching helps you get clear on what you want your money to do for you, make big decisions with confidence, and actually follow through. We look at your whole situation, the numbers and the feelings around them, and build a written plan you can stick to.
Is financial coaching the same as financial advice?
No. I don’t provide regulated financial advice or recommend specific products, pensions or investments. I help you think clearly, ask better questions and get organised, so if you do need a regulated adviser, solicitor or accountant, you go in knowing exactly what you want from them.
Who do you work with?
People at a big money decision point: going through a separation or divorce, selling a business, changing career, taking a promotion or a new job, approaching retirement, planning or receiving an inheritance, dealing with the finances after losing someone close, or planning for children and a growing family.
Can you help if I’m going through a separation or divorce?
Yes. I help you understand your financial position, think through what you need for the next chapter, and get organised before you speak to your solicitor or mediator. I don’t give legal or regulated advice, but I can help you make calmer, clearer decisions.
I’m selling my business. How can coaching help?
Selling a business is often the biggest financial event of your life. I help you work out what you want life to look like afterwards, what the money needs to do, and what to ask your accountant and advisers, so the sale funds the next chapter rather than just ending the last one.
I’ve recently lost my partner or a parent. Is it too soon to talk?
There’s no rush, and we go at your pace. Many people find it helps to have someone calm alongside them while they work through the finances, the paperwork and the decisions that can’t wait, and to park the ones that can.
Can you help with an inheritance?
Yes, whether you’re planning what to pass on to the next generation or you’ve received an inheritance and want to make it count. I help you get clear on your wishes and priorities, then work alongside your solicitor or regulated adviser.
How much does it cost?
The first 20-minute call is free. A single Clarity Session is £199. The Financial Clarity Programme, three in-depth sessions with a written plan and support in between, is £799.
How do sessions work?
By video call, or face to face in my garden office in Cheadle. If we’re doing more than one session, we usually meet every two to three weeks, so you have time to act on what we agreed.
What happens in the first session?
We start with a blank sheet. You tell me where you are, what’s worrying you and what you’d like life to look like. I’ll ask questions, some of them a bit uncomfortable, and by the end you’ll have clearer priorities and the first few steps.
Do I need to bring anything?
A rough idea of your income, outgoings, savings, pensions and any property helps, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. Plenty of people come to me because they haven’t pulled it all together yet.
Do you only work with people in Cheadle?
No. I see people face to face in Cheadle, Stockport and across Manchester, and by video anywhere in the UK.
Is it confidential?
Yes. What we talk about stays between us.
